Playoff Recap / Obituary

Well, it was a fitting way to end the season... our worst season in the history of the team in which we won only 6 games and struggled to not get 10-runned for the first half of the season.  The crazy part is that we played AWESOME in game one against the #2 Seed Scoreboard TLC.  What did we turn, 4 double plays, maybe 5?  We also had the lead for most of the game...heading into the top of the 7th up 6-3 and nearly added more in that inning.  They were on the ropes.  They were flustered.  They could not solve the 5 infielder puzzle.  Every fly play was at someone.  In the infield we were making play after play after play.  On offense we got timely hits and took exta bases.  But in the 7th we had a crack in the ol' armor... we managed to keep it tied to force extra innings, but they had regained the momentum.  In the 8th we were fairly punchless at the plate, and then in the bottom of the inning after a leadoff walk they loaded the bases with 1 out and their best hitter at the plate.  We brought the infielders to make a play at home....but their hitter did what good hitters do... He hit the ball hard and it found a way through.  We had it, we had outplayed them for 95% of the game, but we just could not close it out and Cinderella's slipper just slipped through our fingers.   We had played so awesome for so much of the game, but in the end it just was not meant to be.  To be so close to such a fantastic win is hard to recover from... and by the results of game two we clearly had not recovered from such a heartbreaking loss.

In the elimination game we had to face the #3 Seed BMW squad whom I think we all loath.  They are insufferable when they are losing (constantly yelling at each other) but even worse when they are winning.  Our 5 infielder trick had lost its luster early on as they hit gap after gap, then I proceeded to give up walk after walk after walk.  We did have a 3-run lead after the top of the first, but after that they out scored us 24 to 1.  I am sorry guys... I wish we could have ended on a higher, less embarrassing note, but it is what it is.  Congrat to Derek for winning the batting title... I will try to get the stats updated before the weekend.    Annual whirely ball night in 2 weeks.   Keep that Tuesday open....and I will send out an email with all the details and a MVP voting. See you then, thanks for playing... it was fun hanging out with you guys each week!

Week 8 - Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

As promised, since we won both games and now suddenly find ourselves in a bit of winning streak, I will type up a recap.  To be honest, I wasn't sure if you even read them, I just figured all the hits on the website were each of you proofreading the stats over and over and over.  But now that I know you do read them, and if you continue to win (since I hate writing about losing) I will try to do the recaps just like the old days...

Game 1 was a matchup with Strong Liquor (formerly known as Black Matter Vortex) who has a new name and some fancy new jerseys, but there piss poor attitude still remains.  On the bright side, it was nice to see that they finally found a way to avoid hitting the ball back up the middle constantly, unfortunately there strategy involved taking an uncountable number of pitches and drawing an uncountable number of walks.  Fortunately for them we swing the bats here in grizzly country,  but unfortunately for them we had our hottest hitting night of the season....  Hof had hit for the cycle by his 4th plate appearance.  Blake hit a massive 3 run bomb in the 5th inning.  And 7 of our ten batters had at least 3 hits.  It was a back and forth game, but our 2-out, 6 run rally in the 5th, combined with some fantastic defense and the sweet smell of greasy chicken wings led to a thrilling victory.

Final Score:  Grizzlies 18 - Strong Liquor 17

Game 2 was reminiscent of the good old days...  Tons of hits, good D, easy opponents and home in time to catch the weather on the news.  Reb's Marketing was above us in the standings for most of the year, and that is a sad statement considering how bad they played.  Granted, they only had 9 guys, and 1/3rd of their outfield was crippled with a sore hammy, BUT STILL, how were we below them in the standings?  It must have been the schedule right?  Right?!  They are nice guys, but this game was over by the 2nd inning when we proceeded to score 12 runs, 10 of them by consecutive batters.  The next inning we scored nine more and we entered the bottom of the third up 25-0.  Unfortunately we did give up a few hits at the end and lost the shut-out, but overall it was still a fantastic night of softball.  Hopefully we can use this momentum as we head into two big games next week, including one against ROM who is sitting atop the standings, surely still pissed off we beat them last month.  If we play like we did tonight, there is no reason we shouldn't beat them again...

Final Score: Grizzlies 25 - Reb's Marketing 1
